1st Nephi 1 : 20

But when our neighbors saw that my Dad was not backing down (or changing his smock), and that he continued to preach the things he’d seen, their ridicule turned to resentment. Just as they had with the old-school prophets, our own people wanted to toss Dad out of the city and throw big rocks at his head until he stopped moving. In fact they were very vocal about their desire to see him dead, and many worked hard to get their way. But even with all these bloodthirsty miscreants after my Dad, we weren’t really worried. We know God protects the ones he chooses to do His work. Dad started out with faith, so he got the vision. Then it took more faith to preach the unpopular message to his peers. Do you really think the Lord would let them kill his prophet, and that be the end of it? Hardly. God turned my father into Super-Lehi, helping him outrun his would-be murderers, and giving him extra strength when he got cornered. Dad had some incredible stories, but even as he received the Lord’s protection daily, he knew our fellow Jews weren’t going to give up until his body was floating in the Red Sea. It was time for step two in the Lord’s plan.

And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance.
